MAN v FAT Rugby Referee - Birmingham
Join us on our journey to empower over a million people to change their behaviours and thrive!
We usually respond within three days
MAN v FAT started life 10 years ago as a website and digital magazine, supporting men's health with a particular focus on weight loss. We soon recognised that men were an underserved population when it came to traditional weight management services.
In 2016, MAN v FAT Football was born, for men who wanted to lose weight and play sport in a welcoming environment. Our pioneering approach to gamifying weight loss meant that men could score points for their efforts, making MAN v FAT the only leagues where losers win!
We have now branched out into a new sporting world – Rugby! MAN v FAT Rugby - Lose Weight, Play Rugby
What makes our MAN v FAT clubs unique is that the coach weighs each player before their game. Players earn bonus tries for their weight loss so the league is decided not only on points won, but pounds lost.
Both MAN v FAT Football and Rugby clubs have been hugely successful, with players losing hundreds of thousands of lbs since the programmes launched. This has led to the FA and Sport England endorsing our work and supporting the programme. We now have over 150 clubs across the UK, with a community of over 8,000 men taking part.
We’re looking for a dedicated MAN v FAT Club Referee to officiate games on a weekly basis at Bournville Rugby Club, Avery Fields, B17 8DT (Wednesday, from 7:30 - 8:30pm). The role would suit an individual who shares our passion for rugby and supporting men in making health and lifestyle improvements in order to lose weight. Excellent communication skills and an in depth knowledge of the laws of the game is essential.
Please note: MAN v FAT Rugby follow the Touch format; T1 MAN v FAT Rugby Rules
MAN v FAT Referees are human and valued members of our community. Respect the referee, the referee’s decision is final. No Ref, No Game.
The authority of the referee
Each game is controlled by a referee who has full authority to enforce the Laws of the Game in connection with the game to which they have been appointed, from the moment they enter the locality where the playing area is situated until they leave.
Powers and duties of the referee:
* Enforces the Laws of the Game within the spirit of MAN v FAT Rugby.
* Allows play to continue when the team against which an offence has been committed will benefit from such an advantage and penalises the original offence if the anticipated advantage does not ensue at that time.
* Keeps a record of the match and provides the appropriate authorities with a game report which includes information on any disciplinary action taken against players, and/or team officials and any other incidents which occur before, during or after the game. Follow the incident report procedure to escalate any necessary misconduct and disciplinary action taken during the game. This should include keeping notes of any incidents they would like to report including language used, player names and actions. This will enable us to take appropriate action at a provider level and ensure referees are suitably supported.
* Acts as timekeeper.
* Stops, suspends or terminates the game for any infringement of the Laws or due to any kind of outside interference.
* Takes disciplinary action against players guilty of cautionable and sending-off offences.
* Ensures that no unauthorised persons enter the playing area.
* Stops the game if, in their opinion, upon injury assessment a player is seriously injured and ensures that he is removed from the playing area. Ensuring any player bleeding from a wound leaves the playing area. Allows play to continue until there is a stoppage in play if a player is, in their opinion, only slightly injured
* Ensures that any ball used meets the requirements and players are wearing the correct equipment.
* Make use of timed suspensions to exclude temporarily players guilty of infringements of the laws. The referee should make excluded players aware of the end of their period of suspension.
* Report match scores to the club coach at the end of the session
