It’s a super exciting time to join us as we begin to deliver two newly awarded Smoking Cessation support service across Hampshire and The Isle of Wight, and we’re looking for a Stop Smoking Clinical Lead to join us!
Our programme is designed to support residents of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight access the support they need to stop smoking. This can be done through several approaches and will include the supply of Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT) being sent to them. Combining these, with digital, remote or face-to face appointments with Stop Smoking Advisors to support them to ensure their quit attempt is successful.
As the Stop Smoking Clinical Lead, you will play a pivotal role in the delivery and development of high-quality smoking cessation services across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. This role will provide clinical leadership, expert knowledge, and line management/leadership to a team of specialist stop smoking advisors. Your team will primarily be focussed on delivering a gold standard service to people living with severe mental illness, pregnant women (including those in the post-partum 6 weeks after giving birth), individuals at high risk of relapse, as well as children and young people. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the service delivers evidence-based interventions, maintains high standards of clinical practice, contributes to the ongoing development of the service, whilst meeting it’s targets.

A typical day as a Stop Smoking Clinical Lead
might include:
Clinical Leadership and Expertise
- Act as the clinical expert and point of reference for all smoking cessation related matters within the service, keeping up-to-date with the latest evidence-based practice and guidelines.
- Provide expert clinical advice and support to the team of stop smoking advisors, including complex case management and referral pathways.
- Develop and maintain clinical protocols and guidelines, ensuring adherence to national and local standards.
- Lead on the implementation of new and innovative smoking cessation interventions.
- Conduct clinical audits and reviews to evaluate service effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain a small caseload of complex clients, as needed, to maintain clinical skills.
Team Management and Supervision:
- Provide leadership and supervision to a team of specialist stop smoking advisors.
- Lead team meetings and facilitate effective communication and collaboration within the team.
- Foster a positive and supportive working environment.
Training and Development:
- Develop and deliver training programs for stop smoking advisors and other healthcare professionals, as well as our sub-contractor partners on smoking cessation best practices.
- Support our sub-contracted pharmacies and vape stores with any clinical based queries, in a timely fashion.
- Identify and address the training needs of the team, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver effective interventions.
- Contribute to the development of training materials and resources.
- Support the ongoing professional development of the team, including facilitating access to relevant training and conferences.
Quality and Clinical Governance:
- Lead on the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant clinical governance standards and policies.
- Monitor and evaluate service performance against key performance indicators.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of service policies and procedures.
- Investigate and respond to complaints and incidents in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure accurate and timely data collection and reporting.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, commissioners, and community organisations.
- Represent the service at relevant meetings and forums.
- Contribute to the development of local smoking cessation strategies.
- Working with colleagues across all our Thrive Tribe services to contribute to new projects and service developments – we’re always looking to share knowledge and resources!
- Ensuring due consideration is given to Information Governance and Clinical Governance legislation, requirements and guidance
- Helping us maintain the ethos of Thrive Tribe by driving our organisational culture forward across our services and using every opportunity to embed our values!

To work with us in this role, you will have extensive experience in the field of smoking cessation, and/or preventative healthcare services underpinned by evidence-based behaviour change support. You will have in-depth knowledge of evidence-based smoking cessation interventions and guidelines, with proven experience in providing supervision and leadership.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills are essential for this role, and will be required both internally (across the local team) and externally (across our stakeholder networks). A formal qualification in smoking cessation (e.g. NCSCT Specialist Training) is required, but can also be provided to the right candidate. Experience in developing and delivering training programs, conducting clinical audits and service evaluations, and a strong knowledge of the local health and social care system are desirable.

Contract: Full Time (37.5 hours), Permanent
Salary: Starting at £35,000 with the banding rising to £38,000 per year.

Location: This role is home-based but will require regular travel throughout Hampshire. The role requires applicants to be a car driver and have access to a car for this role. On occasion, travel to the Isle of Wight will also be required.
